34 Love Songs
April 9, 2025 — Day 4
Spacious Skies French Pond Campground, Henniker, NH
We slept in, way in. We were tired after the concert last night, we usually don’t stay up very late but the bitter cold and 20-25mph winds just chilled us to the bone walking the 0.3 miles back to the car, and, well, that woke us up. We didn’t hit the bed until 1AM!
We got up around 10AM, yes 10AM. Had an extremely slow morning. Paul had a late shower and then we hit the grocery store to get some things we were out of. Funny thing is, when we’re on the road we’re always finding new grocery stores, but not this time. We found it on google maps and laughed when we pulled in. Years ago Paul run an off-road event that used this exact store as the lunch break since they had a decent parking lot, deli sandwiches for sale, and flush toilets!
On the way back we got a shot of the Henniker Book Farm, yes, Farm!

Paul is hoping to come back in the Fall to watch the harvest. It will be fun to see the big book combines combing the fields. And yes, the yellow sign says they have 40,000 books in there!
Paul had a big pile of dishes to do, it’s his month, so he did those and then we lounged around the RV doing nothing. Paul is loving his new Dean Koontz novel, The Silent Corner: A Novel of Suspense (A Jane Hawk Novel Book 1). Wow, that’s a long title. Available on your Kindle from the NH Public Library.
The concert started late, just like last night. We didn’t get a good picture of Stephin Merritt today, so you’ll just have one from yesterday, it will be our little secret.

We had people in front of us but right before the show started they moved to the front row center, what a lucky seat hop! We moved into their seats during the intermission so nobody with big heads would sit in front of us.
And yes, Stephen very pointedly pointed out that the intermission would be 20 minutes long.
The concert was great, Susan thought that they seemed more cohesive than the day before. Paul hadn’t noticed anything. He did notice that he was not at all familiar with about 1/3 of the songs from the third album. He plans to correct that.
If you’ll recall last night Stephen didn’t know how long the intermission was and would only say it was of “indeterminant length.” Right before the last song Stephen announced that there would be a 25 year intermission after the next song. Everyone laughed at the “inside joke” that isn’t.
During the bows, the keyboardist got out their phone and did what they did yesterday, took a panorama of the crowd.

What a wonderful collection of photos that must be.
The return trip to the car was not nearly as brisk as last night and we’re both thankful for that. It’s still going to be pretty cold tonight but not as cold as last night.
We’re heading home tomorrow for a few days, then we’re off to visit the birds!
