Great Black Swamp

October 13, 2024 — Day 3

Cracker Barrel, Sheffield Village, OH — Liquid Spring, Lafayette IN

‎⁨Yoder⁩, ⁨Great Black Swamp⁩, Indiana⁩ (Yes, the photo say it was taken in the Great Black Swamp, I have no idea where Apple gets this stuff, probably from drunken Californians…, remember Snowbelt, NY?)

This is not the train that Paul’s brother was on.

We did the day’s first driver change at a toll booth in Rossford, IN. Earlier in the trip we did a driver change stuck in traffic. We’re getting pretty good at speedy driver changes.

Check out the front tires, on this piece of farm equipment. Hint, they’re not tires.

And what do you need farm equipment for? Growing stuff and then sending it to a processing plant. Check out the huge piles of corn or whatever to the left and right of the structure.

We’ve made it to Lafayette, IN. Our Subaru was probably made in this plant.

Of course, Indiana had to break something on Clifford. (susan here: if you recall, I-70 west out of Indianapolis was so bad it broke molding in the bedroom which flapped about and bent the fan!) One of the screws that holds the sound bar on came unscrewed. Of course this looks impossible to fix without a tiny, right angle ratcheting bit driver.

So off to the nearest hardware store, a Menards, which was a first for Paul. They’re the 3rd largest home improvement retailer behind Lowes and Home Depot. But they have a lot of stuff including groceries. (susan here: can you imagine doing your grocery shopping at Home Depot? I can’t.) The tools section was small and he found what he wanted. The store was huge, this was probably only 2/3rds of it.

And of course it didn’t fit. But still, the tool will come in handy someday, we’re sure.

These two maps are fun. We both are in Lafayette, but John left that morning for Springfield Illinois. He’ll be there three days, so we’ll probably pass him tomorrow and be in the lead!
