And the Band Played On

September 11, 2024 – Day 11

Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary & Nature Campsite, Ingleside, ON – Paradox Brewery, North Hudson NY

Today was a driving day. We could have made it all the way home but decided not to, why not, the whole purpose of this tour is shown in the name, the Cabin Fever Tour. So why not take the slow road home. But first, we had to get out of Canada. And there was only one lane going out. We’ve all done one lane roads with a traffic light, but we’ve never seen one a bridge before, especially an international bridge. Who pays for this? We suspect both countries chip in halvsies.

And of course that bolluxed up traffic.

Customs into the USA was much tougher than into Canada. They actually wanted to see Susan, who was in the passengers seat. There were lots of questions, what did we buy, any food etc… They did not board us to inspect.

Ahead of us was something like a corn maze, but it was made of Jersey barriers. We were way too intimidated to take photos. Fortunately, Google has done that for us. I told the Agent that there was no way we’d fit, he said not to worry, there was a truck bypass to the left. The red lines are jersey barriers the cars navigate through. We think there were a few more when we went through. The purple line is where we drove.

But still, that left hander was tight, we weren’t sure if would make it or not. (We did…)

Then we had some pretty scenery.

Then some ugly scenery.

That’s the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora NY. There was a famous escape during in 2015. We can see why they escaped, there was a door wide open in the wall just a little ways down the road. Tupac, the rapper, was imprisoned there, as was the Son of Sam killer. Nice people, right? We scooted out of town, not looking back.

We made it, without any police chases, to the Paradox Brewery in North Hudson NY. This is a Harvest Host site. The lot was huge and level. The person who checked us in said we could park across the street if we wanted, they had a fire pit and firewood for Harvest Host people! We declined. Now that we no longer tent the lure of the fire isn’t the draw it used to be. We like our little home on wheels with all its creature comforts.

The brewery was huge.

Inside was quite nice, there were several bands, all playing folk music, which isn’t really our thing but it was live music and it was fun. But all the bands sat together and a wonderful good time.

We never know what we are going to get eating out on the road, sometimes is ok, sometimes bad and sometimes exceptional.

The pizza was exceptional. We’re certainly adding this place to our rotation, even though it is close to home.

Back at the RV we noticed the grass tops had a reddish tinge to them, that was more than just the sunset, but it was pretty, plus we saw several of these cool seedpods. (susan here: those are milkweed pods. Milkweeds are loved by Monarch butterflies.)

Good night Clifford!

Heyl look, Google Maps doesn’t have us doing through Dannemora. We did. So there google.
