Back Where We Started
This is the trip where we traveled to see the total eclipse in 2024, then continued west to Phoenix, CA and back home.

CQ POTA
April 21, 2025 — Day 16 Kiptopeke State Park, Cape Charles, VA Not much to say today, another lazy day. Oh, we didn’t want to be lazy. We’d planned on kayaking out to the concrete boats. But the winds were high, gusting to over 25mph. It would even have been unpleasant to head out on the bikes. We’re in the trees and the gusts were moving the RV a little. We’ll take a pass on that thank you very much! Paul went and played radio. The ham radio propagation was horrible, the big solar flare is wreaking havoc with the radio waves. But still, he got some contacts in. The…

With All the Frills Upon It
April 20, 2025 – Day 15 Kiptopeke State Park, Cape Charles, VA It seems that we are on the road a lot on Easter Sunday. This isn’t intentional, it just happens that way. Last year we traveled for the eclipse. This year traveled for the birds. What’s odd is that we both love spring in New England. You’d think we’d figure out by now that we like to be home in spring time! Next year, right? We lazed about in the morning. Soon it was time for lunch. But we had no time to make our Easter dinner, so we just foraged in the fridge. Paul had his “near Philadelphia”…

Anybody Need a Life Boat?
April 19, 2025 — Day 14 Kiptopeke State Park, Cape Charles, VA We keep moving the bike rack around, if we’re not driving to a trail we put them on the back of the RV, if we’re going somewhere, we put it on the Jeep. It feels more secure since they are less visible. But this means we now had good access to the Jeep’s taillights and Paul could finally install the 4 pin trailer adapter, so we could then install the brake lights on the bike cover. The dirty connector near the top of the photo is the original Jeep taillight harness. The pair of clean connectors (2 are…

Hey Look, a Skull!
April 18, 2025 — Day 13 Kiptopeke State Park, Cape Charles, VA After we did some laundry we were ready for some adventure. It was too windy to kayak out to the Kiptopeke Breakwater, aka the concrete ships that form a barrier. We have the chops for it but we don’t like doing it. We took the kayaks down from the top of the Jeep then headed out to the Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge. We had been there 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. There is a long North — South trail, and it goes all the way down the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. We noodled…

Tourinns Motor Court
April 17, 2025 — Day 12 Kiptopeke State Park, Cape Charles, VA We hung out in the morning since today was “moving day.” The good news is that we were in Site 23 and we were moving to Site 21 which was right next to us. Checkout time was 1pm but our neighbors were starting to pack up by 9:30 or so! By 11 they were almost done and we were getting excited for an early move. Then the four adults and 4 kids sat down for lunch. Makes sense, when you have that big a crew to even if you are a bit early because feeding a big crew…

The Other Bridge is Cooler
April 16, 2025 — Day 11 Lums Pond State Park, Bear, DE — Kiptopeke State Park, Cape Charles, VA It was quick to pack up to leave this morning because we had done all the water/sewer stuff the night before. We kept on thinking it was an easy peasy 3 1/2 hour drive to Kiptopeke. That’s because we keep on making the rookie mistake of checking Apple Maps for a time estimate. Apple Maps or Google Maps will give you the expected time based on the average time of other travelers. We aren’t average travelers. Clifford is the much bigger, slower “red dog” exceeding the speed limit only rarely, and…

Hammer Down
June 5, 2024 — Day 82 Liquid Spring, Lafayette IL — Ottawa Metro Park, Lima, OH Susan woke up feeling really lousy (susan here: Prime suspect is the taqueria. Foreshadowing here, I had a miserable couple days coming at me. You haven’t lived until you’re bouncing around in your seat in an RV with a painful, nauseous stomach. Yeah, I know, too much info. But such is the “glamorous life” of your favorite RV bloggers.). She’d been looking forward to the test drive and factory tour at Liquid Spring. So, brave thing she is (susan here: stubborn, perhaps?) sucked it up and soldiered on. We were quite happy to find out…

Feed Me Tacos & Tell Me I’m Pretty
June 4, 2024 – Day 81 Starved Rock Family Campground, Utica, Illinois — Liquid Spring Factory Parking Lot, Lafayette IL (Note to readers, we’ve been home for awhile. Today is September 5 and we’re just now resuming the blog, because, well, we’re on the road for more adventures! We need to find a way to keep the blog fun but less work. If you don’t read all the awesome entries we write we won’t hold it against you, honest! We’re doing this for ourselves as much as all our friends. Believe it or not we like re-reading it from time to time. Back to the blog already in progress…) The…

Beam Us Up Scotty
June 3, 2024 – Day 80 Kalona City Park, Kalona City Iowa – Starved Rock Family Campground, Utica, Illinois Before heading out, we needed to get that flat tire fixed. Paul found a tire place in town and there was a 2 hour wait! That was just too long on a travel day so he decided to drive the half hour to Iowa City. The first place he stopped could do the job and fixed it in just a few minutes. The service was so fast he couldn’t get to enjoy the luxurious waiting room. He next went to a Harbor Freight to buy the breaker bar and a small…

At Least the Beer Wasn’t Flat
June 2, 2024 – Day 79 Kalona City Park, Kalona City Iowa We just hung out today, played some games probably, blogged — maybe. It’s just that now a more than a week after we got home we can’t remember. That’s what happens when the travel switch flips and you start stringing long travel days together. We do remember dinner though. And that the special thing over in Riverside, IA was closed tomorrow. Finding good pizza on the road can be a challenge. Based on reviews, we headed over to have dinner at the Kalona Brewing Company. On the way over the TMPS beeped, “low pressure.” We can still roll…
