Destiny, Destiny, There’s No Escaping That For Me

March 1, 2023 — Day 14

We slept in nice and late, maybe 7AM, who knows if this is early or late. We had an easy ride ahead so we started off with a lazy morning.

Then I checked the weather. Wilcox AZ was getting snow that night and a high wind advisory was in effect that afternoon. So I launched the Windy app. It seemed like we needed to be there by 1PM or we’d be seeing gusts to 45mph.

So we had a mad scramble instead of a lazy morning.

I did check out the bathhouse. Given the dive bar nature of the place I expected something horrifying. I walked over and saw the nice mural.

I opened the door with some trepidation and found a clean, well-lighted place. It was actually one of the nicer bathhouses I’ve seen in my journeys!

We took a morning selfie before heading out.

Susan took the first shift and I the second. The only unusual bit of driving was a creative double lane change, then a short cut through a KFC parking lot to get into the other Love’s gas station that was behind us and not crowded at all. That move probably saved 20-30 minutes!

There were some odd rocks alongside the road. The wind erosion must be fierce. We passed one section, several miles long, with all these rounded boulder perched on top of each other.

I took over the driving and brought it up to 70mph. I wanted Phoenix. We must have hit the balance of weight perfectly because the trailer handled wonderfully, maybe the best of the trip.

We pulled into the Destiny RV Resort in Goodyear AZ right before the rains hit. We were chatting with our neighbor when Susan said, “A Roadrunner!” That’s another life bird for me.

We had hoped to visit with Anastasia and John (and see their new home!) but we both were so tired we just met them for dinner at a local brewpub.

It is pouring rain as I type this, very odd for Phoenix, but we’re glad to be here.
