The Not Dogwoods

March 18, 2024 – Day 3

Lums Pond State Park, Bear, Delaware

Today was a settling in day. We hung out in the morning. Susan went looking for my mom’s favorite diner, she couldn’t find it. Not on Yelp. Not on Google Maps. So we texted my brother, who called right back. It turns out her favorite diner was demolished a few years. That’s why we couldn’t find it. It’s a shame because it was a great place.

We found another one, the Route 40 diner, and headed out for lunch. It wasn’t much to look at outside since it was in a strip mall. However, it was all diner inside and very colorful.

Paul ordered the fried crab cakes. And Susan had an awesome grilled chicken salad with home made Greek dressing. It turns out that Paul likes broiled better than fried but said they were still very good. Paul also had Succotash as one of his sides. His mom used to make that a lot. It was pretty good. BTW, it is just sweet corn and lima beans, so it’s not that hard. The name succotash is derived from the Narragansett word sahquttahhash, which means “broken corn kernels”.

Hey look, it is Spring here!

The NotDogwoods are in bloom. Paul said, “Hey the Dogwoods are in bloom.” Susan said, “Those aren’t Dogwoods.” “What are they?” “I don’t know.” So the NotDogwoods are in bloom!

Then back to the coach. Paul was going to play with ham radio (that went poorly) and Susan went shopping for things we had forgotten or just couldn’t get in Keene. One of Keene’s biggest advantages is that it is in the middle of nowhere for New England. And one of its biggest disadvantages is that it is in the middle of nowhere. If Keene doesn’t have it, you have at least a 90 minute drive to get it. Oh, and she bought a toaster because we forgot to pack ours. Paul also forgot to pack some Ham Radio stuff, so we’re going to Amazon that to a friend down the road. Hi Ann!

Susan took advantage of many of the home cooked meals she prepared last week. We had a lovely sausage, spinach and white bean soup for dinner.

And now we’re caught up.
