Back Where We Started,  RV

Who Ya Gonna Call?

March 25, 2024 – Day 10

Cherry Hill Park, College Park MD to Henderson NC

We had a lazy pack out this morning without any issues at all. We didn’t need to move fast because checkout was by 11am plus our Harvest Host requested that we arrive after 5pm. The drive was only 4 hours away. Of course we had stop and go traffic delays which made it slightly longer. All in all not a bad travel day.

We passed by the very cool looking Later Day Saints temple outside of Washington DC.

Next we drove past the equally impressive Marine Corp Museum. (susan here: approaching it, well, it looks like a boat which is appropriate for the Marines.)

We made a stop for propane, gas and lunch just north of Raleigh NC at the Pilot/Flying J. First up was getting the propane filled. We had to wait about 5 minutes for the person to come out to fill. After filling the propane we needed to fill the gas tank so Susan had to scoot over to the pumps as the RV lanes weren’t working. Then we needed to have lunch. Here’s Susan leaving the gas tanks and winding her way around to the RV parking area. She did it like a boss!

We crossed the James River in ‎⁨Henrico⁩, ⁨Virginia⁩, a very beautiful bridge. (susan here: looks a lot like the Zakim Bridge in Boston!)

And we finally pulled into a working drive-in movie theater, the Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre in Henderson NC.

Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre is oldest of 6 drive in theatres left in operation in North Carolina. Visit www.drive-ins.com for listings of other theatres in North Carolina and the United States.

Originally built in 1949, the Moon-Glo Outdoor Theatre showed it’s first movie, Ali-Baba and the Forty Thieves on June 15 under the ownership of the Lyles family. Although the outdoor theatre has changed ownership throughout it’s 70+ years, it has remained in continuous operation. During an ownership change in 1980’s, the name also changed to the now known Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre. Current owners, Mark and Jennifer Frank, purchased the theatre in December 2011 from Jim and Megan Kopp. And just like previous owners, the Frank’s are dedicated to providing quality family entertainment for a great value.

The caretaker was surprised to see us as the owner hadn’t told him we were coming! He offered to text the owner so he could stop by at 8PM and start the movie, Ghostbusters, for us. But then it would be a late evening and tomorrow is another travel day. We politely declined the private showing.

Notice how we drove around DC and inefficiently drove around Richmond. That was a spur of the moment decision and it cost us about 5-10 minutes. Oh well, we’ll somehow soldier on.
